A Gentlemanly Wager to Raise Funds for WWP
Alex and I have made a gentlemanly wager on the ND/Louisville game tonight at Madison Square Garden. The loser will make a donation for the Wounded Warrior Project towards the Team Mountain Man goal of $5000. May be best Man win!

Books Came In!!! And the Tragedy of Game Genie
Today is a pretty great day. After taking a little break from work, I came back to the office to find three packages waiting on my desk for me. Needless to say, I am pretty excited about this. I can now add four incredibly awesome books to my library (yes, I own a library!). Two books by Kev Reynolds, Chamonix to Zermatt: The Classic Walker's Haute Route and Walking in The Alps, should come in handy and provide some great reading. After a quick ten minute skim through them, they look fantastic, and should help Alex and I on our adventure. I'm also pretty excited to read John 'Lofty' Wiseman's SAS Survival Handbook, and put some of those Man skills to use. I also got my Katadyn Hiker Microfilter today too, but being that I am in Afghanistan, I will just wait until returning home before testing the filter. I wouldn't drink any of this poop water here unless someone was willing to give me a million bucks, and pay for my treatment after contracting some unknown disease.
During my little work break this afternoon, Alex brought up a great point about the downfall of our current generation and how it can be attributed to the Game Genie, the cheating attachment to Nintendo and Sega gaming systems in the early 90's. By popping the Game Genie on to your favorite game, you could blaze through level after level without worrying about any consequences or challenging yourself at all. Unfortunately, Game Genie doesn't come in real life, and those little children of my generation who attempted to skate through life just as they attempted to cheat their way through Mario Brothers soon found out that success doesn't happen without hard work and some amount of skill. If people want a scapegoat for the laziness and ignorance of America's 80's babies, they need to look no further than the diabolical Game Genie.

Highlights of the Day
Today at dinner Alex really lost some Man points. He complained about a fly landing on his salad. I'm not sure how he could possibly climbs Alpine mountains if he is worried about a fly. My dinner was also disturbed by a couple people being incredibly loud and annoying. People have no manners these days...seriously upsetting.

Welcome to Naked Mountain Man
Fellow Mountain Men (and Women),
Welcome to the new blog. Feel free to provide comments on this page, about life in general, or anything you feel like venting about.
This blog is a work in progress, and is just the beginning of many months of joking conversations between my friends at work and I. One of my friends, Alex, and I decided one day to do something challenging that would help us clear our heads and enjoy the small things in life a little more. After throwing out a couple ideas, we decided to spend a few days hiking in the Alps. A few days turned into a week, and a week turned into 10 days, and now we project to spend about two weeks hiking the Haute Route through France and Switzerland.
The first thing to do was to get our hands on some information about the Haute Route and about hiking in general. We are both in good shape, but neither of us has ever done any hiking over this distance before. I'm sure it won't be too bad, at least not bad enough to keep us from drinking healthy amounts of beer every night and eating hearty Alpine food. Ordering gear was fun, and soon I'll have everything I need except a new tent. I'm sure that all of the gear I get will be better than Alex's, which isn't really all that surprising. Once we test the gear, we will post reviews on the link to this page.
After 6 months of working a job that I'm less than satisfied with, this trip will come as a welcome respite from my daily life. I look forward to challenging myself, and releasing from the contraints of daily life. Admittedly, this blog won't be completely finished until after our trip, but I will continue to provide continuous updates on our preparation. In addition to talking only about hiking, I'll provide my thoughts on life in general, topics for discussion, and probably some incoherent ramblings too.
If interested, you can also access the Naked Mountain Man Fitness link on the right side of this site. I will provide daily workouts, which I highly encourage you to try if you are interested in becoming incredibly fit and bring out your inner manimal (or womanimal?).
Enjoy,
NMM
